My Turn to Pile on UT!

I felt really left out of all the hate and rantiness goings on, and when my brother-in-law (who's a  blogger for an ACC school) sent me this fun little link, I had to jump in to the party with both feet.

This lovely little link leads to a Barking Carnival article (whatever the hell a Barking Carnival is) that's basically a "oh poor Texas 'fans', we have to not only watch our 'football' team play on Thanksgiving night but we have to watch them play a sub-par opponent in TCU - because, you know, A&M has been SOOOOO good the last few years.

The author went to Texas, and in addition to rooting for his Horns, he claims to be also a Kentucky Wildcats and Atlanta Braves fan. Duuuude, where are you from that you cheer for those three teams? I mean, give him props that he actually went to the school he cheers for (unlike Chippy) - oh, except Kentucky (oh, he's like Chippy!) - but man his rear must be sore from jumping from bandwagon to bandwagon all these years! Quite a feat, front-runner.

Now, the article. (for which I will also being using burnt orange font - by the way, what's up with the US Olympians wearing BO jackets? That's so wrong. At least London's theme is purple.)

I wonder how many out of town students missed out on the Texas A&M experience, or how many Texas Exes spread around the state declined a chance to return to Austin, due to other obligations on Thanksgiving night.

Okay, I have to admit, that I've never been to DKR, and I won't be making the journey to the Berkeley of Texas this year because I will be on an island and not even I'm dumb enough to skip a vacation of that ilk for a football game. But come on, are you REALLY worried that the stadium isn't going to be full for a game? Regardless of who they play? I mean, look at how many Walmart UT t-shirts you sell!

No doubt: many Austinites, College Stationites, and your standard, diehard, generational, "I bleed Burnt Orange [or Aggie Maroon]" families probably planned their Thanksgivings around attending or watching the Big Game. But with that tradition having fallen by the wayside, I genuinely wonder: are Longhorns fans more in favor of just playing the Thanksgiving weekend game against TCU on Friday or Saturday?

It's cute that you think Longhorns' opinions matter. BUT WHAT WOULD YOUR VERY SUCCESSFUL NETWORK SHOW ON THANKSGIVING NIGHT INSTEAD? And what about these "die-hards" he speaks of? I was under the impression that a lot of these fans miss the Texas game on Thanksgiving because of other obligations - see previous paragraph.

Here's the money line though: TCU's side must be even more thrilled, getting a chance to replace Texas A&M on the sliding scale of eminence of Texas colleges. Uh, I think we replaced A&M in that so-called "sliding scale of eminence" (such big words!) after back to back BCS bowl appearances, consecutive undefeated regular seasons, and a Rose Bowl win, thankyouverymuch.

The best part of the article, like most things written about UT, come in the comments. Oh my goodness, please go read the comments. Otherwise you'll miss out on such gems as:

My problem isn't Thanksgiving

it’s TCU. I suppose they’re OK but that’s not exactly a special matchup. Give me instead the fantasy annual Notre Dame match that we bandied about last summer.
TCU thoughts
I’m okay with playing the Frogs on Thanksgiving night, and I’m fine with a Thanksgiving night game. I think, at least short term, there won’t be the venom there was when we played agricultural. I also don’t think TCU as a Thanksgiving opponent is etched in granite. Deloss Dodds likes to make a splash, and I still look for him to lock up a really big time opponent for the Horns to top off Thanksgiving dinner annually.

Calling TCU okay when you're a Longhorn is like calling Usain Bolt slow when you're Rex Ryan. And wake up, 'Horns, Notre Dame ain't walking through that door. The only splash DeLoser Dodds is making is in a pool full of Bevo's urine.

As I said before, I'm not delusional to the point that I expect to go undefeated in the Big 12, but got dang I am so sick of hearing about how TCU won't keep up and doesn't have the depth and just plain isn't good enough to compete week in and week out in the (second) best conference in the country. Real football can't get here soon enough. God, I hate UT. It really burns me they have a damn co-op store in FW.

Happy weekend everybody.

Jaxon Shipley: Meathead and Woman Hater

Here's a nice video of UT WR Jaxon Shipley, the one I accused of banging Case McCoy yesterday.  He's playing dodgeball.  Sounds fun, right?  Yeah, unless you're throwing a ball as hard as you possibly can at a girl's face.  Stay classy, UT.
