Frogs must fight out of loser's bracket

For a while yesterday afternoon, it looked as if TCU's remarkable crop of freshmen might be the difference in their first-round NCAA Regional game against Ole Miss. Preston Morrison was at his best on the mound, working an ultra-efficient first five innings.  Kevin Cron, who has seen increased confidence at the plate translate into more and more offensive production over the past few weeks, put the Frogs up 2-0 with his 4th home run of the season.

Things unraveled from there, though, with Morrison's command deteriorating a bit in the 6th and then the normally reliable TCU bullpen failing to stem the tide of the Rebel line up.  The end result: a 6-2 loss and a date with #4 seed Dayton in the loser's bracket this afternoon at 12:35.

The Flyers, 31-29, are making their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.  They lost 4-1 to the #1 seed Aggies last night, managing just five base hits during the 7⅓ shutout innings tossed by All-American Michael Wacha.  That's not to say they have a weak batting order, though- they are hitting .291 as a team and have hit 33 total home runs this season.

Here is the postgame press conference from the Ole Miss game:
