Since it began forming about this time last year, TCU's 2012 recruiting class has been shaping up as one of the school's finest ever. One key area was lacking for a while, though- through the first 14 commitments in the class, not one of them was an offensive linemen. That changed on December 8th, however, when the Frogs received a commitment from La Grange offensive tackle Chad Childs. At 6'5" 280lbs, Childs is certainly already big enough for the college game. But he's also quite a versatile athlete, having played both ways during his entire four years starting on La Grange's varsity. He was a tight end for the first two years, and still runs a 4.9 forty. As a senior this past fall, he was named 3A All-State by TheOldCoach.com.
Rivals gave Childs three stars, but they also don't have a highlight tape for him so I'm not sure how they evaluated him. He was offered a scholarship by a number of schools- including Texas Tech, Missouri and Oregon State. But following in the footsteps of other Leopards-turned-Horned Frogs Tye Gunn and Maurice Bouldwin proved to be too much to turn down.
