Texas Not Coming To Fort Worth Next Thanksgiving

DeLoss Dodds- simultaneously UT's AD and Big 12 Commish

In what should come as a shock to absolutely nobody, Texas has agreed to a deal with Texas Tech to play in Austin again next Thanksgiving.  This basically assures that Texas will be playing a home night game on Thanksgiving until DeLoss Dodds is somewhere deep in the depths of Hell and Mack Brown is a senile, retired, and still clapping aimlessly like a seal somewhere in Del Boca Vista.

So does that mean that 2 years from now we come back to Austin for another Thanksgiving matchup with UT, or will they throw Baylor into the mix?  Honestly, I think it all depends on which team is trending upwards when the time comes to make that decision.  I really don't have too much of a problem with this at all actually.  I'd rather not have a bunch of UT fans flooding Fort Worth and the AGC on Thanksgiving, where it's likely that many of our fans/students would be away visiting families of their own.  The problem there is that when TCU fans leave town for Thanksgiving, there aren't 1 billion living alumni in the area to fill the stadium.  UT does not have that problem, so they'd be able to put more butts in the seats than we would want at a home game.

Hopefully next Thanksgiving weekend the Big 12 schedulers are nice enough to let us have Baylor that following Saturday, that way it's very easy regional travel and everyone can spend Thanksgiving with family and still not have a bullshit excuse for not going to the game.  In reality though, they'll probably ship us out to Ames, Iowa if they want to screw us over scheduling-wise like they did this year.

Personally though, I think the real reason DeLoss Dodds wants a Thanksgiving home game every year is because he doesn't want to have to pack extra depends for a car ride up I-35 after stuffing himself full of Thanksgiving fixins.  Also, pulling over every 30 minutes to attempt to pee would get really annoying too.  Congrats, old man.  You are clearly the decision maker in the Big 12.

I am fine with not having a annual Thanksgiving game with Texas. The less we try to make "We hate Texas and they Hate Oklahoma" a rivalry the better. IMHO

Yes. I agree. Not a rivalry. Don't care.

i think a better idea would be for us to do home and home with baylor on the friday after thanksgiving each year. kinda like nebraska colorado used to do.

I like John's idea!

That way you can take away two options for UT and force them to not get their way!

Just more of the same UT dick sucking we're accustomed to guys... You kinda get used to it after a while. I was under the impression that we (Tech) had signed something like an 8 year deal with Baylor to play at Jerry World every Thanksgiving weekend, but I now see I was incorrect. You make a good point about filling AGC though, as I can imagine, barring us being unrealistically good, that we would have the same attendance issues, as would many schools, i believe. It just really chaps my ass that all they do is snap their fingers in Austin the the Big 12 commission always bends over for them.

... Oh, and for the record, I hope y'all beat the ever living dog shit out of them this week.

at Oklahoma State again? That can't be right.

It's right. Don't know how to explain but we go to OSU twice in a row.

you can thank aTm for that one Finkle. When we "took over" their schedule, they had previously received two home games in a row from OSU for scheduling purposes. So aTm promised to home games @ OSU in a row. Now, we are stuck fulfilling aggies shitty promises.

We assumed Aggies' schedule, Aggie had struck a deal with OSU to play back to back games at OSU if OSU helped them with a scheduling issue. Then Aggie bolted and we got stuck paying back the favor. Sucks, but CDC already addressed it in Notes On a Score Card, it is going to happen.

I think for punishment A&M should have to visit Bryant Denny two years in a row. It's only fair. You're welcome Saban.

so atm breaking their promise = we have to make up for it? seems legit.

seriously though. how is that a thing. osu should have contracted for payment in case of a default. the conference exists for the good of all teams in it. this is punishing one team for an ex-team's actions. it isn't our fault that atm left or that osu went by a back-scratching agreement that didn't work out.

btw, what "scheduling problem" did this correct for atm to have two-and-two? are they that stupid that they can't schedule games correctly, which are set years in advance?

@Tanner:

When the Big 12 went to 9 game schedules in 2011 the schedules got messed up. In 2010 it was A&M @ OSU and Mizzou @ A&M. Then in 2011 (because of the switch) it was going to be A&M @ OSU and Mizzou @ A&M. But A&M didn't like that schedule so they ask OSU if they could switch. OSU agreed then A&M left. When TCU entered it was explained that if you want in you get A&M's schedule including paying back OSU.

thanks for the clarification. although it still seems like osu doing them a solid.... which is whatever, but unless the conference forced them into that concession, it still feels like we shouldn't get punished for it. also, the conference could just give us a home and home like everyone else, if they wanted to. conferences seem to have the power to do that (see TCU at Boise, 2011), even if we take another school's spot.
