Big East suing TCU....really guys, really?

I've been on the road all this week, so I haven't been able to react to TCU sports news with my usual immediacy here on Spit Blood.  I saw, though, that we got two new defensive back commits? I like it!  But I've also, at almost 4:00am Texas time, had the first opportunity to read about the details of what numerous of you have been texting me about all day...TCU is getting sued by the Big East?!?!

OK, so granted- I'm a human being that grounds my personal existence on logic and reason- so I may be biased with my opinion of attorneys getting involved the way I am when a hoard of Miami Heat fans make twitter look like a series of 140-character versions of Phil Steele's unreadable "magazine".  But you'll have to excuse me if I'm not the only one who greeted this news with an incredulous "are you fucking kidding me?"

I may not know a lot about the ridiculous rules of courtrooms up in what a politically-minded Dan Jenkins probably wouldn't even call semi-crooked Washington, where the lawsuit was filed, but I do have a self-awarded Master's degree in common sense.  Here's what I know...TCU agreed to be a member of the Big East in the fall of 2010, and then not even a year later conference commissioner John Marinatto allowed Pitt and Syracuse to bolt- without a fight- to the ACC.  We aren't dumbass tourists that will buy a $10 slice of pizza from you in Times Square, John- we realized that your Jersey Shore party was a complete sham.

And we, thankfully,  got the fuck out of there without having to eat your under-cooked sausage and peppahs.

So now, all of these months after TCU announced they were joining the Big 12, why is there all of a sudden a $5 million lawsuit?  I thought the Big East had moved past the whole thing- what with their comments upon inviting such fine schools as SMU, Houston, Boise State, Memphis and San Diego State to take the Frogs' place:

“The inclusion of these five great universities, which bring a unique blend of premier academics, top markets, strong athletics brands and outstanding competitive quality, marks the beginning of a new chapter in that evolution. We are proud to welcome these schools to the BIG EAST family."

If you're really happy with this decision...why, then, do you need to turn around and decide to sue TCU all these months later?  Is it that you're realizing what we knew all along- that these schools don't actually replace the Horned Frogs- or are you panicking because of further dissent within the conference and hoping to pin the label of scapegoat on TCU?  If that's the case, those other schools might want to know what they're getting themselves into.

It's not our fault that your conference has been gradually sliding into irrelevance since 2005.  You can blame that on mediocre football and terrible leadership.  But where the Big East's natural decline has been nothing to brag about, this last-ditch money-grab just reeks of embarrassing desperation.

TCU and their alumni will shit out $5 million if we have to, but giving a cent to the Big East would be like paying the newspaper publisher for a subscription that never began delivery.  We never received any of the benefit, and the company's not likely to be in business that long, anyway.

Big East...child please...

Sad Sad... but in better news we picked up our 9th guy yesterday in Bryson Henderson. Big DE prospect and chose us over BU and Okielight.

From what I've read we told them we'd pay that five million but its not due till July 2nd. So basically they are Pre emptively suing which is even more of a bitch move.

Does anyone know if there's any language in our agreement with the Big 12 that could delay our entrance if we're a party of a suit from another conference? Am I going too far thinking the Big East would try to screw us if there was such a clause? I honestly don't think it's too far fetched...

I'm no attorney, but if there WAS such language in our contract with the Big 12, TCU would've cut that check yesterday. I think this is clearly just a panic move by the BE just trying to get a handout because they know they're about to be super, duper broke compared to the big boys. By making Pitt and Syracuse stay as lame duck members and demanding payment from a school that never actually joined the Conference, they're really embarrassing themselves, and I'd be embarrassed if I were SMU, Houston, etc for choosing to join that shit heap.

And, if what Viking says is true, that's even more embarrassing.

What happens to the Big East money when the Big East ceased to exist soon?
