TCU-SDSU Preview

Brance Rivera is looking to close out his TCU career with another conference crown
For a second straight week, the margin of error for the TCU baseball team is razor thin.  Entering their regular season-ending home series against San Diego State, the Frogs' magic number to clinch their seventh consecutive MWC title is three.  That means that any combination of TCU wins or New Mexico losses adding up to three would clinch it for Coach Schlossnagle's squad.

It's not going to be very safe of a bet to count on New Mexico losing this weekend, though.  They've got Air Force at home, and won the first game of that series 22-4 last night.  If they pull off what feels like an inevitable sweep of the Falcons, it will force the Frogs to sweep the Aztecs or else give the Lobos the title and the #1 seed in next weekend's conference tournament.

Andrew Mitchell is slated to start tonight's game against SDSU sophomore Cole Swanson, who carries a 3.44 ERA into the game that will be just his 4th start of the season.  Last time out against the Aztecs, Mitchell lasted just 4⅓ innings after 7 walks inflated his pitch count to 92 early in the game.  Freshman Preston Morrison, who gave up just 1 run in 7 innings against SDSU earlier in the year, will face the Aztecs' Ryan Doran on Saturday.  Doran picked up the lone win for SDSU in that series.  Sunday's game, where the conference crown is likely to be on the line for the Frogs, will feature Stefan Crichton taking on "TBA" for San Diego State.  To tell you the truth, I haven't seen TBA pitch much so I couldn't tell you much about his stuff.
