Spitblood Discussion Question: Seat Selection Progress/Process

You Think Patterson Got To Pick First?
We haven't touched on the seat selection process in a while.  We also haven't had a daily discussion in a while so I figured I'd try to fire everyone back up.  As things kicked off this week, there seems to be a lot of worry/speculation/and frustration with the process.  What are your thoughts on the seat selection process so far?  Where are you hoping to be able to sit?  When do you pick?  Let us know anything and everything about where you hope to rest your cheeks come Frog Football Season.

Did it yesterday. Finally, had to call to get it straight. You can log in prior to your time, but log out after reviewing the site and log in when it's your time. Had to settle for 8 tickets on the 50 in section 306

i'll be getting scraps when my selection comes up on 4/30, really looking forward to it.

Angry Trey said...

Im not until 04/30 as well. Hoping some east side seats around where section V was are still available.

Im not going to complain because I have only had season tickets for 3 years, but it seems like the young alums are getting the raw end of this deal. Its not my fault I wasnt born in 1940. Sorry I can just now start donating.

May 8th, exactly one year from graduation. Even though I've donated something trivial like 250 ducks, I can't imagine there are people going much later

Reed said...

im lucky and using our family seats pick on 3/19. kinda thought i had a chance at some sweet seats, but after yesterdays huge ticket grab, i think ill be back on the east side. which is where i fit in better anyway with the flasks and beers in the pockets

I'm selecting May 4th and I've heard there have been thousands sold already. Lots of talk about people with Club Seats buying up their full allotment to turn around and sell. Hoping that's just talk and not what is really going down, because I don't want to see our stands filled with OU and Tech fans.

Reed said...

i dont know about them being sold to visiting teams, but a lot of tickets were sold yesterday, probably around 2,500. only the top 150 were able to pick, but many groups selected over 20

I do feel for those who have had season tickets for a long time and now won't have the same quality seats, but people need to keep a little perspective. The new stadium is going to be awesome, and we are actually going to be playing teams that people give a shit about. Would you rather have your old seats to watch TCU obliterate UNLV for the 17th time in a row in front of 20,000 mostly silent fans, or have some less desirable seats in a packed house watching the Frogs slug it out with the Longhorns? I know it's not a perfect analogy, and some of the anger concerning the selection process is justified. Allowing people to buy so many extra seats was just plain stupid, but CDC and Co. are doing the best they can. These bumps in the road shouldn't detract from the excitement for 2012. Go Frogs!!

I pick 4/27 at 3:39. Whooo hooo. just hoping some east side decent seats are still available.

Picked this morning. Sec. 233 10 seats in rows A & B. My tan is going to be off the hook.

And I've already decided that if I can't get the seats I want (i.e. virtually the same or very close to what I had in V) then screw it.
Yeah, call me a terrible fan for not supporting the team... but eff it. If what I do, with my limited budget, isn't good enough for the football folks, then I'll just save my money and watch games at home. Maybe I'll put that money towards getting great seats for basketball... you know... before the rush.
I had my Sec V seats for years. I was there almost every game (the ones I didn't make, I didn't choose to not go). I sat through the Hurricane game. I stayed until the Alma Mater, never left early. I painted a pair of Doc Martens purple, go to Spring Games, buy things at Spring Sale, get a football signed at Meet the Frogs, go to the CGP Radio Show, annoy the hell out my friends and family by posting way too much TCU stuff on FB, wear purple and TCU gear almost everyday. Hell, CDC knows who I am (asked me one day at the DMC where my purple boots were), John Denton, Estridge, CGP, some of the players, Gary's personal TCU Police Escort (in a good way), and a bunch of other TCU athletics employees know who I am and say Hi when we see each other. This is bragging, this is saying that these people know how rabid I am.
So, if I'm locked out of the seats that would make me happy because I don't give enough effing cash every year, then I guess they really don't need me in the stands yelling and screaming and making up for the silence and empty seats from those high level priority points folks.

Tickets add up when you are old and have kids that have kids. I'm not old and don't have kids, let alone kids that have kids, but I know plenty of people that bought tickets knowing that they want seats to put their grandkids or future grandkids in.

That's what I assume a lot of these older Frogs are doing and have done. I can't imagine someone who's donated that much money to Frogs athletics is looking to or needs to make a quick buck on Stubhub.

That was a killer frogs caliber sour grapes rant, if you want everyone to have an equal opportunity, move to commie land. I pick April 13th. I don't like it but I'm not so jaded as to understand why I'm there. If you can find any athletic venue in the country that seats their arena based on your level of enthusiasm, then I recommend you latch onto that team with your life.

Rotten Arsenal said...

Okay, then I had better not see another post or comment on here bitching about empty seats, quiet fans, or being told to stop standing on the seats. Not a God Damned word.
I fully understand why I'm where I am but I don't have to sit there and not say a fucking word about it. This isn't every other venue in the world and this isn't some other Junior Pro College team like UT or OU or something. This is TCU and regardless of everything that's happened, we're still TCU. It's disappointing that we're just gonna be like everybody else and screw the fans that don't have money to burn.
Sorry you think my opinion sounds like the grumpy old folks at Killer Frogs. I'll see if I can change my attitude to be more like the douche-bag Frat Boy mentality I see on Spitblood. Online TCU fans sure are catching up quickly to the asshole status of other big time programs.
Yeah, I'm whining... cuz I'm fucking pissed off.

Fuck ya'll.

I agree with several of y'all. I pick May 7 - exactly one year after I graduated. And like, Angry Trey, we haven't been season ticket holders for a long time - but I feel like I'm being punished for the $40,000 I gave the school every year in tuition... I would LOVE to have tickets on the east side, in that lower section (not lower, but the front rows on the top tier). I feel like I'll be stuck with nose bleeds forever, though. I never miss games and I, like most of us, stay till the very end. Maybe we should have had a stand in... the last to leave gets first dibs on tickets - ha! We'll see - I'm getting tickets no matter what. I just kind of wish being an actual Alum gave you a little nudge... :/

Sir Wesley Willis said...

Wow, looks like edks defection has emboldened the AARP sect. If you're so frustrated why not dust off your purple doc martens and get your best bud CDC to throw you a bone? You sound like such a big time player around town I'm amazed they didn't put you on the sidelines.

Seriously though, what do you expect the school to do? What is your master plan to appease all parties? Next time we build a $165 million stadium I guess the selling point to the major donors should be, "hey, we really want your financial support and for your to be a part of this. Oh yeah, did we mention you're going to have to sit in the top corner of the end zone so rotten arsenal can feel important?" get real, man. If dabbling in reality makes me a frat boy douche bag, then so be it. I'm in 4 days worse of a boat than you are and I'm not throwing a fit. I've been a season ticket holder since graduation, buy a parking pass evey year and have donated to the frog club, but I take my place in line like everyone else. It's how it goes. We should just be pretty darned excited we have a Valhalla of a stadium that's intimate enough for no seat to be bad. Im just not worried about it like everyone else.

And, we kind of ARE a big time program.

Sir Wesley Willis said...

And don't take that as a direct assault on rotten- he's a quality contributor wheras we genuinely disliked edk and are glad he is gone. There's just been an overwhelming amount of bitching about this stadium issue that is so overblown it's insane.

FrogHorn07 said...

SWW, it is the administrations +4 policy that is the problem. I am with Rotten, if TCU wants to give my seat location away to someone that is buying there +4 to give to friends or sell on stubhub, then screw TCU. They can enjoy their new stadium filled with quiet rich people, OU fans and Tech fans. I will watch on TV (I can do that now that we are in the Big-12.) I am not sitting in nose bleed city just because I did not fork over a million dollars, I am still paying back the 65k I borrowed to attend TCU. I will save gas money and start going to U of H games, they seem to appreciate their fans, plus they sell beer in the stadium.

Rotten Arsenal said...

SWW, like I said... I'm NOT bragging. Not name dropping. I'm not a big time player... but I'm recognized. My point is that the administration knows that there are people like me, who show up, yell, cheer, and do everything we can to promote TCU. But this ticket selection policy is shitty. Are you following the map that shows what has already been taken? Close to 2/3 of the lower bowl is unavailable. And it's only been 2 days. I've got another 26 days... some people have to wait 6 weeks.
After sitting in Sec V for years, and having those tickets when Sec V and the surrounding sections were half filled at best, I'll be damned if I'm going to happily cough up the same amount (or more) for seats in the Goddamned End Zone or the Fucking Upper Deck because the Powers That Be thought it would be fun to give the folks that spend less time in their seats (or standing) all season than I do in one game the opportunity to buy shitloads of tickets based on a points system that has no merit based on actual fan support but just by pure monetary support.
And yeah, I knew that going in. And largely, I don't have a problem with it since these are the people that helped build the program behind the scenes. But c'mon... a 2-4 ticket limit is plenty. Where we all these fuckers 5 years ago? They sure as hell weren't filling 10 seats back then.
Hell, maybe more people will show up and stay now that the Big 12 comes a callin. But how long will those folks stick around once the new stadium smell disappears? How many fucking Burnt Orange assholes are going to be sitting those seats because the Frog "Fans" who bought a gazillion tickets invited their opponent loving golf buddy to the game? Or worse yet, sells them or gives them away to some jackass Tech Tard?
And, god forbid, what the hell happens if we hit a serious dry spell and don't kick ass? At our most dominant, we had trouble getting people to stay for the second half... or show up at all.
We are NOT Big Time yet... if all it takes is some impressive seasons and a jump to a BCS conference... Jeebus... does that mean that Utah and Boise State are "Big Time"? We're selling a bunch of tickets based on recent success... that smells of bandwagon. And relying on bandwagon fans to sustain a program of our size is iffy. We have any down years, and AGC is gonna look like the DMC.
No, I'm fucking pissed off that despite such things as being at every home game in 1997 and sitting through a fucking hurricane I get rewarded with likely crap seats because all the Johnny-Come-Latelys want to grab the hot ticket.
If that doesn't piss you off, then there is something wrong with you.

Reed said...

ok i take it back, i no longer agree with Rotten

Go Frogs

Sir Wesley Willis said...

I agree with you on that point - being able to pick up that many extra seats on your first go around is a bit absurd and reeks of the administration viewing a ticket sold as a ticket sold, no matter who occupies it. That is frustrating. But seriously, look on the bright side - there will not be a "bad" seat in the new stadium. When it only holds 45,000, it's just not possible. Plus, even with the Big 12, they aren't going to sell the thing out before everyone gets to pick. I think we all just need to tap the brakes a little on going into panic mode.

Cro-magnon Frog said...

Rotten, You are entitled plain and simple.

I spoke with my 87 year old grandad yesterday who i'm positive has held season tickets longer than you in football basketball and baseball as well as given more money.

He used to sit on the west side betrween the 40's on the top row. He chose the top row so my grandmother who has trouble walking long distances and going up and down stairs could be able to watch the game without struggling to get to the seats.

It was his turn to pick yesterday and guess what? he wasn't able to get the same seats. Infact, when it was his time to pick. The only thing available between the 40's was the 1st and snd row. So much for my grandmother getting to enjoy TCU games.

But you know what my grandfather didn't do when he received his seats? He didn't bitch like a little baby about how unfair the whole situation is. He understood everything about the new stadium going into it and loves TCU enough just to be happy to have tickets.

So fuck you Rotten. You are a spoiled little faggot and I don't ever care to hear what you bitch about next. Get the fuck off spit blood. and go circle jerk with EdK on killer frogs.

FrogHorn07 said...

Cro, so you are saying TCU said "screw you, you don't get to watch TCU football anymore" to your grandma, and you don't care. This story is fictional.

Cro-magnon Frog said...

Don't believe it if you don't want to. But it's true. My point still stands that RA is acting like an asshat.

Sir Wesley Willis said...

We're all a little entitled. I mean, I got my Sec V tickets, what, 4-5 years ago? And at the time there were only about 3-4 of us getting two tickets a piece. A couple of years later, another friend of ours called and was like "So, uh, can I get, you know, 30 tickets together in Sec V?" And the ticket office didn't even hesitate to say yes. A first time season ticket buyer was able to grab THIRTY!!! seats together on the 15-20th row on the 45 yard line for a perennial Top 25 football program. You DO realize how ridiculous that is, right? How a fan of any SEC, Big Ten, Big 12 school would die laughing at us for bitching about our current situation? How fans at schools like Michigan - a stadijum that holds 110,000+ folks - have to have their seats passed down to them in family wills or wait until someone else dies, right?

All that's to say, progress guys. It requires sacrifice. We've had a wonderful situation going, but part of moving to the Big 12 and building a new stadium is getting pushed around a bit by the folks with money. The Occupy Amon movement is cute and all, but it's not going to make a dent in what's going on, just like Occupy Wall Street was just an lolfest for the people they were attacking.

The biggest issue us picking late are going to have is that, more than likely, we aren't going to be able to group up with all of our buds. Boo-hoo. Deal with it.

FrogHorn07 said...

SWW, thanks for the perspective. I understand that this is progress.

But, I remember going to games in '90 when I was six. My parents held those tickets and showed up for the good and bad. Heck, my dad threw TP at the U of H mascot one game when he was a student. Now my parents' season tickets are gone because people with club seats needed a +4 to sell on stubhub (and they are on stubhub selling them, check it out, http://www.stubhub.com/tcu-football-tickets/tcu-vs-oklahoma-12-1-2012-4036516/ ). It is very frustrating that TCU handed over my parents' season tickets so someone else could make money selling seats on stubhub. That is all.

Cro-magnon Frog said...

Froghorn,

I followed your link. There are 2 sets of GA tickets and 2 tickets in the 400's section.

So while yes, some people are selling tickets (10 total OH GOD THE HORROR)

None of those tickets are the coveted 103-108 sections that all of the "club seaters" are being accused of buying up for profit.

Of all the people I know who are buying tickets in there (in bulk) they are some of the largest supporters of TCU. They don't sit up in their boxes smoking cigars while wearing a monicle and laughing at all of the poor (monetarily) TCU fans who they forcefull moved to the East side. NO, they are hosting huge taigates and they give all of their tickets to their family and friends and encourage people to go into the games. They are also the ones who shut down their tailgates so people can't lollygag in the parking lot while the game is going on.

I understand you are enjoying this doomsday scenario that you have painted in your imagination that the entire westside will be filled with burnt orange and Red and crimson and whatever other color our opponets are. But it's simply not the case. You have no proof bhind any of this and you, like RA are just wanting to continue to bitch about things. All of you claims are unsubstantiated. So why don't you let this all play out. And if the west side is empty or comepletely filled to the brim with opposing fans, you can come back and say I told you so. But that is not the case.

Rotten Arsenal said...

I love how as soon as I express my strong opinion stating my exact feelings on something, the calls to leave SB and go to KF start.

SWW, I apologize for the D-bag comment.

Cro-Mag... that sucks about your grandparents. But just because your grandfather didn't get mad doesn't make him a saint. If he is okay with getting screwed by the organization he has long supported, that's his prerogative. I'm not him.
And if the long time, average fan can't feel entitled... well... is there any reason to have any loyalty to that organization?
I'm not talking about some jackass Hippie Occupy movement. I'm just saying that if years of support doesn't warrant some legitimate consideration, then why should I continue. My money and support isn't worth much apparently, so why should I expend the effort and money?
One of the things I love about TCU Athletics is the closeness of everything. It's not UT-T-Shirt land where they are more like an NFL team than your beloved alma mater. If I'm being a whiny asshat, so be it.
And apparently, the first "people" that have been buying tickets are Corporate sponsors... Bell Helicopter... Lockheed... you want to reward these groups? Put their name on a fucking plaque somewhere... give them a pavilion... but don't give them all the best seats.

VikingFrog said...

@CroMag Never purposely send someone to that other site. And no need for name calling. Arsenal is a good guy and it's easy to see his frustration.

@Everyone WHAT ARE WE YELLING ABOUT!!!

PurpleHaze354 said...

I'm not happy with the process. I agree that is the way things go, but by the time we pick on April 26th, there will be probably nothing but end zone seats. I'll be damned if I am going to pay that for those seats and have to buy 4 when I only need two. I will surely miss all our friends in Section C

Sir Wesley Willis said...

Apparently CDC has been reading SB because in his notes on a scorecard today he directly addressed the corporate situation, claiming it is bullsh. For what that's worth.

Sir Wesley Willis said...

And, I think we are all going to find out the little things we loved about little secret TCU will disappear by joining the Big 12. Part of the price of success is T shirt fans, corporate ticket snatchers, etc. Unfortunately we can't have it both ways.

PurpleHaze354 said...

So when you hear from someone in the know, that the old millionaires are buying 100 tickets at a time, the system is flawed. Oh well it will be interesting when the vistors will feel like they are at a home games. CDC is such a liar
