Hawthorne ready to get PAID

In the four years since David Hawthorne signed with the Seahawks as an un-drafted free agent in 2008, he's racked up 350 tackles, six sacks and seven interceptions while climbing the depth chart and becoming a starting middle linebacker. He also returned an interception of a Vince Young pass 77 yards for a touchdown last year, which may turn out to be his last in Seattle.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll and GM John Schneider have been very tight-lipped regarding the club's desire to retain Hawthorne or not. If their recent history (having parted ways with LBs Lofa Tatupu and Aaron Curry in the past year) is any indication, though, I'd look for the guy they now call "Heater" to be playing for a new team in 2012.

Hawthorne visited the Saints in New Orleans this past weekend, and is reportedly visiting with the Lions in Detroit today. There is also some chatter that the Eagles could be looking at Hawthorne as they try to shore up their defense with a free agent linebacker. Wherever he ends up, my guess is he's in for a nice little pay raise from the $900,000 he made last year.

Hope he gets a great deal. I can't imagine trying to squeak out a living on $900K.
