Is THIS TCU's 2012 Schedule?

MY SOURCES HAVE bynomeans CONFIRMED that this is TCU's 2012 schedule. Peruse it and offer your thoughts in the comments after I indulge a few of my own:

9-1 @ Oklahoma St.
9-8 Grambling
9-15 open
9-22 Virginia
9-29 @ SMU
10-6 Texas Tech
10-13 @ Baylor
10-20 Iowa St.
10-27 @ W Virginia
11-3 Oklahoma
11-10 Kansas St.
11-17 open
11-22 @ Texas (Thanksgiving)
11-29 @ Kansas

  • Opening with OSU? Whoo boy, welcome to the Big 12!
  • The bye week before Texas is a nice bonus, although I'd presume they have one as well
  • Late October-mid November should be fun with a game in Morgantown followed by the OU/KSU back to backs. Again, welcome to the Big 12!
  • Ending the season with Kansas will fill the annual UNLV/UNM easy season ender we've become accustomed to.
  • SMU, Tech and Baylor in back to back to back weeks? HATE! HATE! HATE! I seriously might combust.

I'd rather open with Ok State and their new QB/Blackmon-less offense in week one other than play them once they hit their stride.

Also, WVU is incredibly overrated. They killed an average Clemson team in a sloppy, sloppy game and everyone thinks they're amazing now? Not buying it. They remind me of FSU preseason this year. How'd that work out?

Andrew Sullivan said...

S&K's point is definitely valid re: OSU replacing Blackmon and Weeden. Still would prefer to open with Grambling if possible, but if not, then OSU sure beats a wasted open date.

WVU will be tough, but not any tougher than say OU, KSU or UT which all have their weaknesses.

I like playing Okie St. first game of the season. It should definitely be a prime time game since the other top 50 or so teams in the country will be playing FCS schools for the most part.

I believe the bye before Texas is because that game falls on thanksgiving which is a thursday. I can only imagine that one of GP's agreements to playing @UT on thanksgiving was that he gets a bye week before.

I don't care how overrated WVU is, having them back to back to back with OU and K st. will be tough. That will make or break our season.

Can't wait for the football season to get here. How long until the Spring game?

The 11/29 date for Kansas can't be right. That's a Thursday.

The Big 12 has had Thursday night games in the past.

Yeah, they fire off a few Thursday/Friday ESPN games every now and again. However, they are typically not that late in the season.

Again, this is by no means an official schedule, just what MY SOURCES!!!!! have given me. Now that PM is going to die a grisly death, someone has to carry the unfounded "source that may actually be my neighbor's cat" torch.

Cro-magnon Frog said...

PM didn't die, it's writers and subscribers all moved to Scout. PM is a horrible ghost town right now and I heard a rumor that Brian Smith, yes, THAT Brian Smith who made retarded comments on TV about Pachall starting over Dalton as a Freshman is taking over.

SuperSweet HornedFrog said...

hopefully PM gets taken over by Killer Frogs...Those guys really know what they are doing over there

I saw a "confirmed" schedule for UT on orangebloods not too long ago that had UT traveling to KSU the week before we play them on Thanksgiving. That would be best case scenario, IMO. Tough, physical team, on the road, and they seem to always have UT's number.

It will be interesting. I think Kansas State is the most overrated team. No way that team is as lucky again as it was last season.

WVU is always tough, no matter what, especially at home. But I do love having OU at home and 12 days before taking on UT.

It's going to be a fun year.

I guess a Thursday game on champ weekend makes sense--networks will be packed Friday/Saturday with the conference champ games and regular Big 12 conference games.

This schedule has a pretty decent balance of home/away. That 3-week stretch of @WVU, v. OU, v. KState could be a lot of for or incredibly painful. Those 3 will probably be picked 1-3 to start the season. I'm glad it's in late October/November.

Not too shabby. Whatever happened to that alleged LSU early season game or am I completely dreaming?

shortnkerley's said...

Could be wrong but I thought that was 2013.

purpleheart said...

S&K you're right, it's 2013 and 2014. I'll take the extra year to get ready for that one.

FrogHorn07 said...

Wow, that is not a MWC schedule at all.

1) The OU, KSU, @WVU stretch would be killer, I would be happy if we went 1-2 through those games.

2) Hopefully we can bounce back with an off week and get the Horns in Austin. Having to go to

3) Lawerence for senior day is a big bummer, you know they are going to come out fighting, seniro day is primetime for upsets.

4) Sweeping SMU, Tech and Baylor is going to be tough, back-to-back-to-back rivals is no picnic.

5) Opening in Stillwater is brutal, when is the last time we were in a venue as tough as Ok State? Maybe Clemson?

Confirmed or not, it's still pretty surreal our schedule will look similar to this from now on.

I'm already getting butterflies...

Why is everybody in awe of the big 12 schedule? We should be concentrating on using our HATE to the fullest extent. I hope our players arent as intimidated as everybody on this board

THEFINCH said...

Seriously, happy with 1-2 with the ksu, wvu, ok stretch. I hope our team has higher expectations than that. We are tougher and more talented than two of those three. Anything worse than 2-1 is unacceptable.

I still don't know how difficult it will be transitioning from MW competition to Big XII, but what I like the best is that we can beat every team on that schedule. That isn't to say we will, but just the chance to be able to compete to be the Big XII Champions it pretty great. I think the biggest trap game will be K-state. I am positive about one thing thought, my mother/family will hate me for skipping Thanksgiving to attend the TCU @ UT game.

Something else to consider. Our schedule in 2013 will consist of @ LSU & facing UT, WVU & OSU in Fort Worth. 2013 (Pachall/Boyce/Brock as seniors) will be a big year for TCU.

Froghorn7 last time at a venue as tough as okie lite? November 2011 at boise

None of our readers get intimidated.

One of the few good things about being from Austin: The NurseFrog family Thanksgiving will be at the UT game, and no one has to travel to get there. Can't wait.
