I favor this one over the previous post. I am confused as to why we need a mascot logo change in the first place though. Nike has put together some solid uniform combos for us, but I don't know why we would let them design our mascot logo. Cutting edge is cool occasionally, but I would rather associate TCU with tradition than the "newer is better" mentality.
I think both Frogs are pretty cool. I will say I do like the tradition of our frog and the first one posted is a little to futuristic... maybe something to put on my sons TCU shirt (not the helmet) but the second one could grow on me...
While I personally like the traditional logo, one aspect that hasn't been mentioned in all this is the affect the rebranding will have on recruiting. Our relationship with Nike will be a real selling point. There are some programs that are histrionic to mess with their uniforms: UT, Bama, USC, etc. But, recruits love the different uniform combos, gloves, cleats, etc. that come from Nike. Look at Oregon. While we look at those uniforms and feel a migraine coming on, a lot of kids think it's the coolest thing. Fans are the ones who like to see "our" uniforms, but a lot of the players like the multiple Nike unis because they think they're cool and aren't as attached to traditional uniforms.
My gut reaction to the other one is negative - the perspective and proportions are just off (what's the deal with that back leg??). And the blogger who pointed out the stylistic similarities between it and the boise logo sure didn't help. It definitely needs some tweaking. This one just looks like clip art to me. Something you'd get from your kid's "Reptiles of the World" sticker set.
I agree with Cowtown food junkie - letting Nike run our shit is, while not necessarily the inside track to improved recruiting, CERTAINLY an advantage. Like every other school in Texas we are never going to beat UT head to head for the cream of the crop recruits, but having this advantage over every other school will be a huge leg up.
And if you think our current logo is some sort of big statement in badassery, then Don Draper would like to invite you up to his office for a drink and a lesson in marketing.
Does a team called the Horned Frogs really need to try so hard to push the envelope on being badass?
Most schools' helmets don't even have their mascots on them -- especially not the Ducks, Owls or Fightin' Irish.
The point is ... the designs are great -- for something else. I'm not opposed to changing the frog we have (I'd rather not), but the first looks exactly like what you would expect from Corporate America and this second one, well, it's just too busy.
This logo looks like something I'd see on the cartoon network. I much prefer the other logo.
As I have slept on it, I really don't think the other logo is too bad. I think it can look good on the helmets and it really doesn't bother me all thatmuch. Yea, I hate change, but it could be a whit ton worse.

The other one. All that needs tweaking is for it to look like it's charging, rather than shying away

They both suck.

Is this a triceratops?
Does no one else get the feeling that we're going to keep the block TCU logo on the helmets from this year?
hate this too. bring back the flying T!
Stick with what the nation knows! Branding is key!
I don't like the helmets without the horned frog.
Thanks for the vote, D! It's not too late to link to my back story at http://sayhellotomylittlefrog.com :)
