Meet the Future Frogs: Rashodrick Linwood

After a brief quiet period this past spring in which they received no commitments, the TCU coaching staff got back to adding to the recruiting class of 2012 in June when they received the pledge from Rashodrick Linwood, a 5'9" 180 lb running back from East Texas.

"Shock" Linwood was a bit of a do-everything player for quite a while at 2A Linden-Kildare, having amassed over 1,000 total yards and 16 TDs as a sophomore in 2009. As a junior, he eclipsed the 1,500-total yard plateau and scored 20 TDs. That was enough to earn him a place in Dave Campbell's Texas Football's Texas Top 300, a three-star evaluation from Rivals and a scholarship offer from TCU and Baylor amongst others.

As a senior last fall, Linwood rushed for 2,103 yards and 25 TDs while lining up mostly at quarterback for the Tigers- also throwing for 729 yards and 5 TDs. His efforts were rewarded with 2nd Team 2A All-State honors from the Associated Press. It's not entirely clear what position he'll play once he gets to Fort Worth, but as you can see from his junior year highlights, he's got plenty of athleticism to go around:

Might wanna put a disclaimer here too. Apparently Baylor has been pushing pretty hard of late on him as well. Hopefully with Daje most likely jumping ship, we can push real hard to keep him on board. The recent recruiting events have soured my mood lately. That's not good for anybody.

Would he be any relation to TCU 1980's player Byron Linwood?

I kinda don't think they are related. My old buddy Byron was from Pittsburg.

Shock could be a diamond in the rough for TCU if he signs.

But what's the deal with all the Waymon James clones? It would be nice to have a back around 6-feet tall, like Tucker.

I think I am glad that my knowledge of recruiting is limited to these posts. I can see how people go crazy over this every year.

I just hope we get enough people who are a good fit with the system GMFP has in place. If the kids want to be here then great. If they want to go to a place where dancing is forbidden and they cannot experience the greatness of the Oui regularly, then their loss.

I wouldn't compare Shock to Waymon. He seems like a slot guy to me. But waymon isn't a bad guy to clone, is he??

LaDarius Anthony is around 6 feet tall and actually reminds me of Tucker. He should get the tough yards while BJ Catalon could be the big play Waymon/Ed Wesley-type back. Shock Linwood seems to be wildly underrated by ESPN and Rivals. LSR immediately commented that he could be a huge playmaker when he committed, so I hope we can keep him.

I understand the frustrations with the bad recruiting news lately, but don't get too upset. The Rivals guys seem pretty confident that we can still get commitments from some impact recruits. I really hope we get a commitment from Jordan Moore this weekend. He's a 6'1" safety who runs a 4.37 in the 40 and is a state hurdling champ in Georgia. ESPN has him as a 4-star recruit. Nobody gave him any attention in football until a few months ago, and TCU was the first school to offer.

Yeah...apparently Linwood's twitter feed makes it look like a switch to Baylor may be imminent.

Man, I know their football program has some good stuff going on and everything. But going to college in Waco was always a head-scratcher. Most of my friends that went to Baylor wish they'd gone somewhere else.

I heard that too, Lyle, but then I looked for myself and it's pretty pro TCU and Baylor. I think he's just being a HS kid who's loving attention and bringing more onto himself. Whatever. He can probably play day one there. Not anytime soon here.

The only big loss here would be one of the coolest names ever.

Linwood to Baylor. We lost a potential valuable backup.

If you don't like a school, there is little stopping a student from leaving and going elsewhere.

Cool story though.
