Daily Discussion: The BCS Championship

We were all pretty grumpy during last year's BCS National Title Game, watching two programs that cheated to get there instead of the deserving Horned Frogs. Whether or not LSU and Alabama are playing by the rules (I doubt it), and whether or not you think both teams deserve to be there (I'm on the fence), even those of you out there indignantly telling your friends and coworkers that you're not going to watch...are probably going to tuned in to see the rematch between the Tigers and Crimson Tide tonight.

So our daily discussion today deals with the game tonight- what are your thoughts? Should Oklahoma State be there instead of Alabama? Who (if anyone) are you rooting for, and why? Who do you think will win, and why?

I am boycotting the NCG until there is a full blown playoff (not a two or four team playoff).

If FCS can do 20 teams, why can't FBS do minimum 16?

So you're honestly saying you don't watch the NCG? I doubt that.

Bama 21-17. I don't really care to get into the "whether or not someone else should be there" discussion, bc it's Monday morning and I don't wanna talk till I'm blue in the face about it.

LSU will win 21-10. I think their defense is just too good for Alabama's offense.

I don't really want to watch the game, and I'll probably be in bed around 9. Screw the mythical national championship game.

Tigers by 7.

Higher scoring than people think with a couple of defensive/special teams TDs.

Honey Badger don't give a shit and takes one to the house.

My whole family went to LSU so I've always cheered for them and always will unless they are playing TCU.

Plus, my 80-year old grandmother from Lafayette would have my head if it were any other way. She checks the frogs score in the paper every Sunday and calls me to discuss the final score.

I have not watched one bowl game besides TCU's. I did randomly catch the end of the Fiesta bowl, but I didn't make any effort to sit down and watch it. I am not planning on watching the NCG.

That said. I'm all for the Tigers. The deserve it and Alabama doesn't deserve to be there. I understand both sides of the argument, but I think OSU should have gone to the NCG instead.

I'm rooting for the Bayou Bengals. I've always been a fan and have a lot of family that went there. I definitely think Bama is the 2nd best team in the country. They probably don't deserve to be there but whatever. This will be a better game than OSU vs LSU would have been. I think Bama wins. Pretty difficult to beat the same team twice in one year, especially when you are facing Saban.

3-6 tigers

Neither team deserves it since neither team is actually complete. They both have good defenses but lack anything resembling a decent offense. I hope Bama wins just so the BCS is stuck deciding what to do with an undefeated OSU team. But I'm not bitter or anything...

I think it's a common misconception that these teams can't play offense because everyone looks at the first matchup between the two and makes that assumption.

While their passing offenses both probably have something to be desired they are not completely inept on the O side of the ball. They also don't HAVE to be as efficient in the passing game as both game plans seem to be play killer D and ground and pound it out.

Bama is ranked 13th in rushing yards per game and LSU is ranked 16th.

LSU hung 40 on Oregon. 47 on West Virginia. 41 against Arkansas and 42 against Georgia. Those are some decent teams that were all in pretty big games themselves the past few weeks. Overall they hung 500 on their opponents all year and only allowed 137 points. Thats a pretty big margin to say they can't play offense.

Alabama on the other hand scored 431 and allowed 106 throughout the season. Also pretty good numbers for a team that CAN'T play offense.

(note I added these up on my calculator so I may be a couple of digits off)

So, unless I'm missing the detail that all of these points came from Defense/Special teams, it would seem to me that these teams can play some O against some pretty decent teams. Everyone focuses on that one game and don't look at the rest of the season.

Maybe the fact is no one can play offense against Alabama or LSU. And these numbers seem to lean that way.

Alabama should have won the first matchup, it it's a similar game they better hope their kicker shows up.

so, by that logic OSU is a 'complete team'?

LSU 24, Bama 21.

Tide don't deserve to be there. If you can't win your division (forgot not winning your conference) you shouldn't be there...but that's just me and me and the BCS don't always agree.
