The young TCU baseball team just got a bit younger, at least for the first part of the season. Junior third baseman Jantzen Witte, who was third on the team with a .331 batting average a year ago, is out 8-10 weeks after hip surgery.
He ought to be back by mid- to late March, in plenty of time to contribute to what is hopefully the Frogs' 7th consecutive regular-season MWC title and another deep postseason run. But TCU's schedule is fairly front-loaded, and Witte will be out for at least the three-game sets against Ole Miss, Cal State-Fullerton, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech and the mid-week games against Baylor and Texas State.
It's not totally clear yet who will take over the hot corner in Witte's absence, but a quick glance at the 2012 roster (which is 64% freshmen or sophomores) gives one the impression that it'll be someone with not a whole lot of experience.
