Frogs face tall order if they want to advance

Coming in to this weekend, much of the worry was about Oklahoma coming in and continuing their dominance of TCU and winning the Fort Worth Regional. Turns out, Dallas Baptist was the team to be worried about. The Sooners never got a shot at the Frogs as they went 2 & out, losing to Oral Roberts in yesterday afternoon's elimination game. But then DBU pitcher Jared Stafford confused Horned Frog pitchers for 8 innings last night as the Patriots defeated TCU, 3-2.

Now with their backs against the wall, the Frogs face a tall order: win three games in two days. First they'll take on Oral Roberts in an elimination game at 2:00pm. Win that, and they'll get another shot at Dallas Baptist tonight at 7:00pm. Win that and the two teams would face each other once again in a winner-take-all contest Monday night. They haven't beaten DBU in three tries this season, and they were unable to fight their way out of the loser's bracket in the MWC Tournament, so this will definitely be a huge test for this team.

The good news is that TCU still has their best pitcher, Kyle Winkler, available. He ought to be able to out-pitch whomever Oral Roberts pitches this afternoon in order to get the first of those three needed W's for the Frogs. Then again, might Schlossnagle gamble by pitching Erik Miller against ORU this afternoon to give Winkler a shot at DBU tonight? That might be their best shot to get to a Monday night game, but if you end up exiting a Regional at your home stadium without having used your ace pitcher, the second-guessing (especially with TCU's incredibly fickle, second-guessing fanbase) would likely last all offseason.

All of the games (hopefully all THREE of them) will be on and KTCU.
