TCU beats Baylor...again

Kudos to any fans that stayed until the end of TCU's 7-6 victory over Baylor Tueday night. I sat patiently through the first lightning delay, but departed Lupton Stadium pretty briskly after the Bears' Logan Vick robbed Jason Coats of a would-be three-run homer to end the 4th inning as a fairly intense storm was quickly approaching. It was a seriously great catch by Vick, who must feel like he has to be some kind of PETA activist to make up for having a last name synonymous with killing dogs while playing for a baseball program known for it's cat-decapitation skills.

Once play finally resumed, the Frogs surrendered their three-run cushion as they allowed Baylor to tie the game at five. But they battled back, scoring the go-ahead run on a triple by sophomore Kyle von Tungeln and then an insurance run that proved to be the difference on a suicide squeeze from Brance Rivera.

Freshman Nick Frey started the game for the Frogs, and supplied four very servicable innings opposite Baylor flame-thrower Brooks Pinckard. Or perhaps I should say three strong innings and a very shaky 2nd that the Frogs were fortunate to get out of only having given up two runs. Either way, it's nice to know you can rely on your 6th starter to pitch well enough to give your team a chance to win against a team as good as Baylor. Also, the afore-mentioned von Tungeln went 2-2 at the plate with two walks in his other plate appearances. For him to come out of his nearly two-year funk would be huge for this team's postseason prospects.

With the win, the Frogs have now completed their regular season slate of games against the Big 12 with a 10-4 record. The top two teams in Big 12 play after 14 games played, also with a 10-4 record, were Texas and Texas A&M. TCU beat both of those teams the last time out.
