Forecast: Poopstorm

The Evil Sports Pimp Network Dallas corner just posted this story a about Coach P:

TCU's Gary Patterson Angry At SMU

While I really don't disagree with Patterson, this is really PR Fail. I think he's right, but in this he just comes off as a whiny bitch who just lost to a team he usually beats the crap out of.

I do find it interesting that his anger at the officiating and June Jones seemed to be largely for the same reasons I posted right after the game. Still doesn't help that we should have beaten the phonies regardless, but these are the exact things you can't complain about in public.

It would be nice if we had something tangible proving that CUSA had called to apologize, but I really don't see that happening. No way are they going to publicly admit anything close to fixing a game... even if it was just mistakes.

Still, this makes us look bad because people aren't going to see this as anything more than an arrogant Mack Brown post game whine fest, regardless of whether he's right or not.

Gary's never been a PR champion. This is nothing new.

I was reading this on that other site (sorry, I do occasionally venture over there, but I never stay long!), and I have to say, I don't think this is really whining. I like all this because it adds a little more anger to this rivalry, and hopefully it pisses off our guys enough that we don't get into this situation again. Hell, maybe it will galvanize our pathetic fan base.

Either way, I'm glad he is who he is, and that he's passionate about his job and is that angry about losing, the shitty refs, shitty SMU comments, etc, to not give a damn about PR.

I can't believe CUSA didn't have the balls to issue the pulic statement about the officials like they promised...I hope this means the end to SMU to BE talk...since TCU was instrumental in getting them to that stage

I know it's a typo but "TCU's Gary Patterson Angry At TCU" probably isn't far from the truth either after the way our defense has played so far this season.

i like the article....i wish he would talk more shit about june jones, smu people, and refs

I bet Del Conte is sweating off his spray tan trying to do some damage control on behalf of GMFP.

I'm glad he came out and said it. The blatant disrespect smu showed was sickening. And those comments after the game were completely ridiculous. Next year is going to be a whole new level. Also, if GP's words don't light a fire under this team's butt then we have even bigger problems than CUSA refs.

I like that GP is finally mad - it fits him better. I also like how he acknowledged that the SMU rivalry wasn't a big deal to him before - now he can join in on Hate Week.

why would we help them in the first place. thats bullshit!

I hate the comments going up on that article right now. Very bad PR. It's like all the TCU haters (why are there so many of them?!) came out of the woodwork.

All I know is that we sure as hell better beat SMU next year.

when was the last time an espn article about tcu ginned up enough interest for 2000+ comments? hell, it got me to make my first post here. screw all those idiots! if we're so irrelevant and truly haven't arrived, why all the hate? people hate UT, A&M, Ohio State, Miami, BSU, Notre Dame, etc. for all kinds of reasons but they're own fans still love em. GO FROGS - GO GP!!!

Look, I was as pissed off as the next guy after the game, probably not as mad as GP but still. These have to be things we vent to each other, not in an official capacity to the media. While this may be a product of his passion, to people other than fans it does not come off well at all. For whatever reason there are obviously an enormous number of people who hate our program based off the comments this has garnered, and while 9 times out of 10 I would be the first to say f the haters, this is not going to help our cause. It's not going to help us get recruits, it's not going to get us votes in the polls, it's not going to help secure our place in conference mayhem 2011, its not going to bring any sort of positive attention to the program or school and it definitely won't change that L to a W.

Gary is better than this and we are better than this. Go TCU and may hate week next year bring June Jones to tears.

media diversion, conference talks?

He made these statements 3 days removed from the game, not in the heat of the moment. The guy is so conservative about what he says that I can only believe this is a strategized statement.

On the bright side the TCU-SMU game next year will be very well publicized & is going to be an amazing game. We finally have a good rivalry again.

The main reason that this article is damaging is because this is the stiff that gets picked up and spread EVERYWHERE. Every hater and BCS asshole who loves to see teams like Boise and TCU fail pick this shit up and spread it far and wide. Off the field press goes a lot farther than on the field action unfortunately.

Did some cursory looking last night... pretty much as expected. Although I did enjoy this particular comment from some Tech Tard on DoubleTNation:

"Both schools are unimpressive.

Just a couple of metro-plex church schools so what. SMU has a law school. TCU has no graduate programs in Medicine or Law, I think they have an MBA program thats fairly good. Their athletic programs are average at best when compared to Tech as are their academic programs. And Patterson is a putz.
"

Coming from a fan of a Tier 3 school that hasn't even come close to any sort of major athletic success since Sheryl Swoopes in 1993.
