SMU invites itself to the Big 12

During all of the conference re-alignment drama of the past two years, I think everyone around the country was wondering about the intentions of a certain sleeping giant located just north of downtown Dallas. Well, just wait for the ripples because SMU athletic director Steve Orsini has thrown down the gauntlet- letting the world know that the Mustangs are pushing for membership in the Big 12.

I'd love to go off on a rant here about the improbability of SMU gaining an invitation from the man (Dan Beebe) who was in charge of dismantling their program back when they were successful (and cheating), or that they should respect TCU's hard-earned right of first refusal to board that sinking ship, but we're running short on time and need to move on to another story in the "Good luck with that, guys" department:

Apparently it's not about winning or building a program, it's about asking politely! We should have started doing this years ago...

yup. smu can't win their own less than stellar conference. of course it isn't about winning it's about money. oh wait, they can't sell tickets either.

well, they do live in a huge tv market. wait wait, doesn't aggy and ut already pretty much control that?

well smu definitely does have...

nothing. they literally have nothing to offer any conference in the nation. except a live pony.

You can't lose 100% of the games you don't play

But SMU's dad totally owns a dealership. He can probably get them in.

I think that picture says it all.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!

Oh wait... they're serious?! They're one of the most worthless programs in the country! The ponies may have just one-upped Baylor for most delusional program/fanbase.

"SMU already has drawings that could be used to expand on-campus Ford Stadium from 32,000 capacity to 40,000."

Unfortunately those drawings were done with lines of coke on a mirror.

If TCU brings nothing to the Big 12 (which in terms of non-gameplay value, then honestly, we don't), SMU brings less than nothing. Smaller stadium, no extra TV markets, no national respect at all...

SMU in the Big 12. Riiigghhhtttt. Barry Manilow can also sing, Rick Perry has an intellect, and The Big East has a real, legitimate conference.

Why didn't we kiss the Big 12's butt and ask nicely years ago? How silly of us....oh,yeah, that's right. We have class. I remember now. We earned it.
