Update on Carpenter

Former Frog Matt Carpenter, at the start of just his second full year of professional baseball, was given a non-roster invite to the St. Louis Cardinals' spring training after having been named the organization's minor league Player of the Year in 2010. He made the most of the opportunity, hitting .340 in 20 Grapefruit League games with the Cards, but his longshot bid to make the Opening Day roster came up just short when he was assigned to AAA Memphis yesterday.

According to the story from Fox Sports Midwest, though, it sounds as if the St. Louis brass was impressed with him and that he's got a good shot at being called up to the bigs at some point in 2011.

Gotta figure... he moved up well through the minors, was considered for the Show and is now in what amounts to the Green Room of pro baseball. I say he's in St. Louis by June.
