Bowl Game TV Numbers are Out

Today's Birmingham News had an article discussing the TV ratings for the just-completed bowl season, and some discussion on why all five of the BCS games saw a decline from last year. The simple answer: because they were on cable, and not everyone has cable. TCU-Wisconsin, while not quite as watched as the previous year's Rose Bowl between Ohio State and Oregon, was the second-most watched game this bowl season. It also actually out-performed the 2008 game between USC and Illinois, which was still on regular ABC and not ESPN. Here's the whole list:

Still don't understand why ESPN didn't put the BCS games on ABC. They are the same company! Could have been much higher than it even was.

Yeah, I had to scratch my head at that one, too. I'm assuming there was some factor that we're not aware of in play.
