Big East announcement coming today

That's what the New York Daily News is reporting this morning. According to the article, Big East commissioner John Marinatto and other top conference execs flew to the Metroplex last night in time for an official announcement at 1:00pm today. As far as I can tell right now, TCU has not called a press conference, so we'll wait and see...

***UPDATE***

Yup, here it is- this email from TCU was forwarded to me just now from a friend in the media:

Media Advisory

A major announcement involving the TCU athletics program will be made today at a 1 p.m. news conference in the Four Sevens Team Room of the Meyer-Martin Athletic Complex.

TCU chancellor Victor Boschini and director of intercollegiate athletics Chris Del Conte will be present.

Four Sevens Team Room? That corporate whoring/gas money must be really nice.

Joining the Big 12 is more than just football - it's the other sports and it's academics. I'm not bashing TCU by any means - I love their football and Patterson is top notch. I'm just saying the big brass of the conference likely does not see TCU as "worthy."

As for the Big 12 getting back to 12 schools - they have said repeatedly there are no intentions of adding 2 schools. Yes, Beebe is an idiot and he will probably go back on his word. But even if the Big 12 offered and TCU were to accept - who else would join?? They would need a big splash and who fits that bill? Tulsa? Houston? UTEP? New Mexico? Even though football is the money-maker, none of those would help bolster the league - in anything.
