Strength of Schedule Watch: Week 10 recap

This may have been the best week of the season so far for the Frogs' strength of schedule. A lot of important wins by TCU opponents, as well as Oregon falling victim to Stanford:

What went right:
Clemson 40, Florida State 24
-Going into the 4th quarter down 24-21 with CJ Spiller limping, Clemson's hopes for their first ACC Title since 1991 seemed to be, once again, going up in smoke. But the Tigers erupted for 19 unanswered points to take down the Seminoles and grab the reigns in the ACC's Coastal Division. All that's standing in their way of their 1st trip to the ACC Title Game is NC State and Virginia.

Utah 45, New Mexico 14
-While a loss to the Lobos would've exposed major flaws in the Utes that would have me feeling a lot better about this weekend's game, it also would've been a blow to TCU's postseason resume, since Utah would've surely dropped from the rankings. But Ute tailbacks Eddie Wide and Sausan Shakerin both went for 100+ yards and true freshman QB Jordan Wynn threw for nearly 300 in a blowout win.

BYU 52, Wyoming 0
-Anytime your team goes out and kills someone by a score of 38-7 and then they win their next game 52-0, you've got to feel pretty good. Max Hall was nearly flawless (20 of 22 passing for 312 yards and 4 TD's) in leading the Cougars to the route. The best news is that BYU has moved back into the Top 25 of the BCS.

Air Force 35, Army 7
-With the attention of ESPN's Game Day on the campus of the Air Force Academy, the Falcons ran all over their service academy counterparts from West Point to improve to 6-4 on the season, making them the 4th MWC team to become bowl-eligible and showing that Colorado Springs is not an easy place to win.

SMU 31, Rice 28
-The Mustangs blocked two field goals (returning one of them for a touchdown) and an extra point as they outlasted the winless Owls in front of a homecoming crowd of 15,475 in Dallas. With the win, the Mustangs improve to 5-4 on the season. SMU actually helping TCU's strength of schedule? Imagine that!

Texas State 27, Central Arkansas 24
-Bobcat QB Bradley George was pretty solid, throwing for 301 yards and 3 TD's, the last of which was a 24-yarder with :27 seconds left to win it. With the road win, the Bobcats kept pace with the rest of the logjam atop the Southland standings at 4-1 in conference, 6-3 overall.

Neutral:
UNLV 35, Colorado State 16
-What happened to the Rams? After their 3-0 start to the season, they've now lost 7 straight and have been eliminated from bowl contention. The Rebels, at 4-6 now, still have a small chance at getting there, however.

What went wrong:
Miami 52, Virginia 17
-While Virginia has been able to sneak up on a few teams this year, the boys down at "The U" weren't having any of it. UVA actually led early, 10-3, but then the Canes erupted and downed the Wahoos by a score very reminiscent of Super Bowl XXVII. UVA is probably staying at home this bowl season, unless they can somehow win out against Boston College, Clemson and Virginia Tech.
