Perhaps it's too early to call the Jim Christian Era a success... but after the unspeakable things Neil Dougherty did to our program in his hellish reign, winning just one game qualifies as a success by comparison. Thanks to a big game from everyone's favorite Lithuanian Edvinas Ruzgas (16 points) as well as resident Croatian Zvonko Buljan (11 Points) and freshman Ronnie Moss (11 Points), the Frogs put away the Western Michigan Broncos 67- 63 in the first round of the Charleston Classic. The Frogs will play the winner of the Clemson/Hofstra game which tips later today. Kevin Langford also contributed 10 points, reppin' the Dougherty leftovers.
You may look at this and say, "Yeah well, it's a directional school," but this WMU team is no slouch after having won 20 games last year and returning three starters. Also, this is a TCU team that only returned 4 guys, and 4 guys who still have that Dougherty stank on them as well. Seriously, can you imagine the mental retardation that these four guys have for just having to be in the same room as Dougherty everyday, let alone having to listen to him coach? It's scary to imagine. I know it's just one win, but this is the first game some of these guys have played in the NCAA, not to mention together. Noting this, as well as listening to him speak at the coaches dinner, it looks like Christian knows what he's doing. Seriously, if you can come out next Wednesday for the home opener against Nebraska, please do. I don't know that this guy can make us a national player, but I know he can make us a major player in the Mountain West Conference.
