Deception In The Heart Of Texas

Good article from the SI Vault on College Football in the SWC

Many Frog references.

#22 Tommy Blake

This one makes me kind of sad. If you would have asked me a year ago where TB would end up on the greatest Frogs list, I would have guessed (barring injury) he was a shoe in for the top ten. As we all know, that did not happen.

His senior year aside, TB still managed to become one of the greatest defensive threats the Frogs have ever had. As a red-shirt frosh in 2004, Blake had 5 sacks which earned him a spot on the CUSA All-Freshman Team. Those 5 sacks were the most for a TCU freshman since Aaron Schobel. In 2005, Blake was First Team All-MWC and racked up 7 sacks and 13.5 TFLs. He was also named as the MWC Defensive Player of the Year.

In 2006, he led one of the best defenses in all of college football. The 06' Frog defense was was second in total defense, second in run defense, and third in scoring defense. Not to mention holding the nation's leading rusher, Garrett Wolfe, to just 28 yards (130 below his average) in a 37-7 throttling of NIU in the Poinsettia Bowl. Blake finished 06' with 54 tackles (16.5 for loss), 7 sacks, and one fumble return for a TD. He was again named to the First Team All-MWC.

Blake ended his career 4th on the Frog career sack list, and 7th on the Yards Lost Tackling. He will unfortunately go down in as the "Mystery Man" of the 07' season, but to all Frog fans he should always be remembered as guy who played his heart out as the leader of one of (if not the) the most intimidating defenses TCU has ever seen.
